2021 Tournament

The 2021 Annual Bean Camping Tournament made a return visit to McDade, TX for the 38th year of competition held on October 29th – 30th.

We had a smaller turnout than recent years with 12 players. Among those competitors were 6 former champions including: James Bean, Jeff Bean, Danny Bean, John Bean Sr., John "JT" Bean Jr., and reigning champion Drew Lamont.

In addition, we had 6 experienced players: Shane Bean, Tyler Bean, Richie Wells, Chance McShan, Jordan Brown, and Andy Huber.

As the reigning back-to-back champ, the BIG question headed into 2021 was if Drew Lamont could pull off the 3-peat, which has happened only once in campout history. For the first (and likely last) time we played mini-brackets to determine who got the byes, and after some spirited debate around which events would be played the tournament unfolded as follows:

The first 3 events played on Friday were Horseshoes, PuttPutt & Croquet (click links for full bracket):

  • HORSESHOES: 1st – Danny Bean, 2nd – Jordan Brown, 3rd – JT Bean, JR, 4th - James Bean

  • PUTT PUTT: 1st - Danny Bean, 2nd - Jeff Bean, 3rd - Tyler Bean, 4th – James Bean

  • CROQUET: 1st – Danny Bean, 2nd – Tyler Bean, 3rd – John Bean Sr., 4th - Shane Bean

At the half-way point, the clubhouse leader by far was Danny Bean at 3 points followed by Jordan Brown at 14pts and Jeff Bean at 15pts.

As a new day dawned the games of BAGS and Washers were played (saving darts for the evening):

  • BAGS: 1st – Drew Lamont, 2nd – Chance McShan, 3rd - JT Bean, 4th - Danny Bean

  • Washers: 1st – Jeff Bean, 2nd – Jordan Brown, 3rd – Danny Bean, 4th – James Bean

  • FINAL SCORE BOARD: 1st – Danny Bean, 2nd – Jordan Brown, 3rd – Jeff Bean

And with little fan-fare, that math was easy to see with a 13.5pt lead, darts need not be played as Danny had mathematically secured the victory for 2021. Second place (and most improved was Jordan Brown at 23.5pts and Jeff Bean with 26.5 points

This marks Danny’s 5th overall victory which is good for 3rd most all time. The story for 2022 is easy for most to see as Danny Bean and Drew Lamont have gone home with the trophy 6 out of the last 7 years. Join us in congratulating our 2021 champion:
