2016 Tournament
The 33rd year of competition is officially in the history books as the 2016 Annual Bean Camping Tournament was held November 11th - November 13th. The tournament was held in a new location in the town of Jewett, Tx (near Centerville).
In total there were 16 eager competitors battling for the 2016 championship. The returning contenders were James E. Bean - Jeff Bean II - John T. Bean Sr. - David C. Bean - Michael S. Muhs - Daniel P. Bean - John T. Bean Jr. - James T. Bean - Shane C. Bean - Jim Bean - Richie Wells - Chance McShan - Paul Smith and Andy Huber.
There were two fodder (newcomers) making their rookie appearance in 2016, Jordan Brown & Drew Lamont.
Headed into the tournament the press was fixated on which prior champion would take home the trophy in 2016, however at the halfway point in the tournament the press and prior champions were put on notice as long-time campout veteran John T. Bean Jr. "J.T." won 1st place in the first two events on Friday (being Bocce Ball & Croquet). As night fell Friday the tournament turned its attention to Darts which was not as kind to J.T. as he tied for 9-12th. 2015 champion Danny Bean however took 1st in darts and as the first day of competition came to an end, J.T, had the lead with Danny 1.5pts back.
As Saturday games kicked off J.T. took 7th/8th in Horseshoes, but really made the difference in Putt-Putt not losing a single game and taking his 3rd event of the Tournament. As Danny fell back into the pack, James E. Bean Jr. emerged in second place headed into washers.
J.T. had a 6.5pt lead over James as washers began and was in control of his own destiny. After two wins and two losses, to mathematically end the tournament J.T. had to defeat rookie Drew Lamont in a Wash-off for 7th place. And so at 1:23 am, as the score was tied 10-10 to a game of 11, J.T. muscled in a ringer and secured his first Bean Campout Victory.
Coach Bear Bryant once remarked "I'll put you through Hell, but at the end of it all you will be champion." And while it was hell to close out, John T. Bean Jr. put together a dominate tournament and is your 2016 Champion.
